“If you feel like screaming, you definitely should.”
Danish director Lars von Trier’s darkly comic and often exceedingly vicious portrait of a serial killer follows architect, engineer and psychopath Jack (Matt Dillon) through “five randomly chosen incidents over a 12-year period.” Jack intends to build a lake house but instead creates a charnel one within the dank confines of the meat locker where he preserves his victims. This is an artfully constructed work from a master filmmaker that will have viewers pondering whether they should be watching something so unrepentantly nasty – which is exactly the reaction a horror film from one of the world’s most controversial directors should provoke. Approach with caution.
