The line between CGI-animation and live-action has become increasingly blurred and The Lion King convincingly masquerades as the latter, boasting arguably the greatest computer-generated imagery committed to the screen to date.

Director Jon Favreau has followed up his Jungle Book remake with Disney’s most ambitious endeavour, conjuring photo-realistic characters against predominantly digital backdrops and delivering a truly jaw-dropping experience. Purists will be pleased to discover the script adheres to the 1994 narrative, albeit making some slight but welcome adjustments along the way. The new elements frivolously catch viewers off guard, including a delightful reimagining for Timon and Pumba and an all-new song by Beyoncé, Spirit. And speaking of the all-important musical numbers, original composers Hans Zimmer, Elton John and Tim Rice have rearranged the original classics. This new version of The Lion King delivers a spectacle unlike anything seen before, and roars just as loudly as the animated original.
