The first trailer has arrived for Midsommar, the new horror film from Hereditary writer-director Ari Aster.

Having masterfully summoned the spirit of 1970s occult horror with Hereditary, Aster’s second feature, Midsommar, appears to be taking its cues from another ’70s classic – The Wicker Man.

A young woman reluctantly joins her boyfriend on a summer trip to experience “a crazy nine-day festival that only happens every 90 years.”

It looks more like a sinister pagan ritual to us, and on the strength of the brilliant Hereditary, you can count on it being a deeply unsettling experience.

Starring Florence Pugh, Will Poulter and Jack Reynor, Midsommar is coming to cinemas later this year.
