Badge, check. Camera, check. Portable phone charger, check. Program guide, check. Stamina, check. San Diego Comic-Con 2017 kicks off on July 20, and the line-up is huge – we’re going to need the power of The Flash and Quicksilver combined to take it all in!
As always, we’ll be ducking into the preview night tonight for a sneak-peek at the Exhibit Hall – when you can actually move in there – before heading off to the Blade Runner 2049 VIP Experience for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and hopefully a selfie with the Gos or Harrison Ford.
Then it’s a mad dash to a wine bar for an intimate reception with the cast and filmmakers of IT and Annabelle: Creation as part of a special SCAREDIEGO press event. Will there be red balloons? Either way, we’ll all float over to the nearby cinema to check out some new clips from IT and a Q&A with director Andy Muschietti and the kids’ from The Losers Club. This will be followed by a sneak preview screening of Annabelle: Creation, introduced by director David Sandberg and the cast.
And that’s just for tonight! Over the next four days we’ll be bringing you all the breaking news and new trailers from the Hall H panels, the first of which is 20th Century Fox, which promises Deadpool 2 and the upcoming X-Men film slate.
Warner Bros. will showcase the DCEU with Aquaman’s Jason Momoa, as well as the Justice League of course, with members Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher and Ezra Miller attending.
There will be more Blade Runner 2049, too, with Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright and director Denis Villeneuve. We’ll also grab some time with Villeneuve to discover how one crafts a sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi masterpiece.
Steven Spielberg’s virtual sci-fi thriller Ready Player One will also be revealed, and we’ll have more on that from the press conference with stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, T.J. Miller, Ben Mendelsohn and author Ernest Cline. No Spielberg, however.
We’ll be there when Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and special guests provide an inside look at the MCU – expect the latest on Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, and maybe even Avengers: Infinity War.
The LEGO Ninjago Movie is also on the agenda, with a press conference featuring the voice cast (Justin Theroux, Dave Franco, Michael Peña, Kumail Nanjiana and more) who will hopefully explain what a Ninjago actually is.
The Doctor Who panel on Sunday has just become unmissable with the announcement this week that Jodie Whittaker will be the 13th Doctor. Will the first female to land the role join Peter Capaldi’s departing Doctor and The Moff on stage? Who knows…
Throw in Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Westworld, and a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Fan Party, and we’ve got a busy schedule ahead. But that’s Comic-Con, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
