It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s The Princess Bride.
In 1987, a film that had everything – fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles – arrived, and the world was blessed with the perfect movie for any occasion from needing a cheer up to celebrating a royal mawwage. It also had a killer cast, mixing the relatively unknown (then) such as Cary Elwes, Robin Wright and Mandy Patinkin with a comedy who’s-who including Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, Mel Smith and Peter Cook.
Based on William Goldman’s novel of the same name, the author also penned the screenplay of this film that remains amongst the most quoted flicks of all-time. Action, adventure, comedy, fantasy, horror, drama – to dislike it would be, frankly, inconceivable!
Four reasons why The Princess Bride rocks
1. Perfect for any age and any occasion.
2. The best swordfighting sequence ever filmed.
3. Inigo Montoya’s quest for revenge.
4. True love.
