It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
Two slackers discover that their band, Wyld Stallyns, are to be the saviours of the world – as long as they pass their history class. No problem though, as the most triumphant dude from the future Rufus gives them a time-travelling phone box so that they can pinball through time, collecting famous historical dudes – and babes – for their report.
This was where most of us first encountered Keanu Reeves, and nobody would have guessed his particular future at the time. He and his most less successful subsequently co-star Alex Winter are totally lovable doofuses (doofi?) in this adorably silly comedy that remains really great fun to this day – well, save for one or two rather heinously anachronistic gags.
Four reasons why Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure rocks:
1. Most triumphant early Keanu, and the late, great George Carlin as Rufus.
2. “Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K.”
3. Ziggy Piggy!
4. The excellent Breakaway by Aussies Big Pig kicking off proceedings. Although we reckon they should have changed their name to “Biggy Piggy”.
