It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of top movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

It’s Steven Spielberg’s genuinely classic movie that made it OK to love aliens – or at least one, in the titular squishy little brown thing at the heart of E.T.

A collection of plant-loving aliens touch down in California, but are soon disturbed by government agents. They freak out and hastily take off – inadvertently leaving one of their kind behind. A little later, young Elliott returns home from pizza-fetching duties to discover something odd going on in the shed. Here he encounters E.T., and our story of good versus evil (to strip it down to its most basic) begins, as Elliott and his siblings try to protect their new friend from the government and send him home safely.

You’d have to have no heart not to feel even the littlest bit squishy yourself when viewing this slice of Spielberg mastery that knows all the right strings to tug at.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

Four reasons why E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial rocks:

1. A chance to plug into your inner child. It’s still in there, somewhere…

2. Little Drew Barrymore.

3. “E.T. phone home.”

4. The farewell. [***sniffle***]
