It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, rather obviously, it’s Friday the 13th.
“The counsellors weren’t paying attention, they were making love while that young boy drowned. His name was Jason.”
And so it begins. Camp Crystal Lake isn’t nicknamed ‘Camp Blood’ for nothing. In 1958 a pair of counsellors were brutally murdered, and 21 years later the killings begin again when owner Steve Christie and a bunch youngsters attempt to re-open the camp, despite the warnings of local old timer Crazy Ralph.
For many horror fans it’s a tradition to revisit this trendsetting 1980 slasher movie whenever the eponymous date shows up on the calendar. Some will even pull an all-nighter and watch the entire franchise back-to-back! Of all the Friday the 13th films, the original remains the best.
Four reasons why Friday the 13th rocks:
1. The gory effects by make-up master Tom Savini.
2. Betsy Palmer as Mrs. Voorhees.
3. Kevin Bacon’s death scene.
4. One of the greatest jump scares in horror film history.
