It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s Jumanji.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Jumanji hitting the world, with its amazing (for the time) effects, fun story and the ever-wonderful whirlwind Robin Williams at its core.
The tale of a board game that was anything but boring, a boy hears drums and tracks them to a box that’s buried in a construction site. Later he plays this discovery with a neighbour and, well, gets sucked in bad. Some 25 years later, a brother and sister find the game, play it, and release a rather hirsute gentleman who looks and sounds remarkably like Robin Williams. Unfortunately, they also unleash a whole lot more from the game’s ever-so-dramatic world….
Four reasons why Jumanji rocks:
1. Robin Williams.
2. The effects – from the quite incredible (elephants!) to the alarmingly dodgy (we’re reluctantly looking at you, creepy monkeys).
3. A true film for all the family.
4. “Don’t worry. I’ve done this before. Once.”
