It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s Men in Black.
You know who to call when you have ghosts, but what about aliens?
More secretive than the CIA and more powerful than the FBI, the Men in Black police the multitude of alien immigrants living on earth and are ready to wipe the memories of witnesses with a neuralyzer gadget. When a nasty breed of alien bug arrives in search of a galaxy hanging from a cat’s collar, newly minted Agent J (Will Smith) is given a crash course in MIB procedure by Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones). Based on the Malibu comic book by Lowell Cunningham, director Barry Sonnenfeld’s smart and genuinely funny sci-fi comedy features fantastic VFX from ILM and creature designs from Rick Baker, who received an Oscar for Best Makeup Effects. There’s even a song.
Four reasons why Men in Black rocks:
1. Smith and Jones’ onscreen chemistry.
2. The wonderfully deadpan Rip Torn as MIB boss Zed.
3. Vincent D’Onofrio as Edgar the bug.
4. “No, Elvis is not dead. He just went home.”
