It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s Minions.
Love the silly little yellow guys or hate them – and we have a sneaking suspicion that many “H8ers” haven’t ever actually watched any of their movies – the Minions are here to stay. Minions 2 is in the works, as is a fourth Despicable Me movie. Yay!
But what did the little guys – because they are all, apparently, guys – get up to before nabbing the sweet gig as the despicable Gru’s helpers? All is revealed in this all-ages appeal origin flick, which shows that these wee dudes have been around pretty much since the dawn of time, seeking out the most evil baddies and offering them their help. This doesn’t always work out, but their intentions are unquestionably pure.
Four reasons why Minions rocks
1. Jon Hamm voicing baddie Scarlet Overkill’s hubby Herb (aka “Blerb”). Is he the definitive cartoon embodiment of Tim Rogers or what?
2. When Kevin Met Gruey.
3. A wild ’60s-heavy soundtrack bulging with genuine classics. Yes, this includes Donovan’s ‘Mellow Yellow’, of course.
4. KING BOB!!! (mic drop)
