It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Fearless archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) must prevent the mystical Ark of the Covenant from falling into the clutches of the Nazis. Cue John Williams’ rousing theme music…
Nowadays, a collaboration between Steven Spielberg and George Lucas would be equally a blessing and a curse. But back in 1981 it not only resulted in the creation of one of the screen’s most beloved heroes, but also forged one of the greatest adventure thrill rides of all time. Channeling the spirit of the Saturday matinee cliffhanger serials of the 1940s, Raiders is a masterpiece of escapist entertainment with a dash of the fantastic and an old school filmmaking approach – the physical stunts left real bruises on the cast, just as the finished film left an indelible imprint on popular culture. And it has one of the greatest climaxes of any motion picture.
Four reasons why Raiders rocks:
1. Indy shoots the swordsman.
2. Inside the Well of Souls.
3. Marion’s introduction.
4. Melting Nazis.
