It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s Speed.
“Pop quiz, hotshot. There’s a bomb on a bus. Once the bus goes 50 miles an hour, the bomb is armed. If it drops below 50, it blows up. What do you do?”
You dial a pizza and kick back with one of the best action movies of the ’90s – the one that saw the careers of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock take off faster than a, well, speeding bus. It also gave the late, great Dennis Hopper a truly loopy role (as the villain), and moviegoers a major adrenaline rush. Speed delivers on its title, taking off at full throttle and then flooring the accelerator for the next 100 minutes. As simple as its pitch, this is fast and furious action entertainment that holds up well 25 years on.
Four reasons why Speed rocks:
1. Keanu and Sandra’s double act.
2. Dennis Hopper.
3. The elevator scene.
4. There’s a bus on the runway!
