It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of top movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s The Terminator.
The original and the best!
James Cameron’s proper debut feature – if you don’t count Piranha II: Flying Killers – is a star-making action vehicle for Arnold Schwarzenegger built upon a brilliant time travel scenario that sees the fate of the future resting on the shoulders of a waitress named Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), who has been targeted for termination by an unstoppable cyborg. Shot predominantly at night in dingy Downtown LA locations, often without official permission, it’s this guerilla-style approach to low budget filmmaking that gives the movie its propulsive energy and ’80s grunge style. Moreover, The Terminator announced the dangers of allowing Artificial Intelligence to become too intelligent – a theme that’s even more relevant and frightening today.
Four reasons why The Terminator rocks:
1. “Come with me if you want to live.”
2. The Kyle Reese/John Connor paradox.
3. The police station shootout. He said he’d be back!
4. The endoskeleton rising from the fire.
