It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s The Wizard of Oz.
It’s the classic tale where Judy Garland gets a bump to the bonce and is whisked away to a wonderful place full of good witches, bad witches, little folk and beings with missing bits. Whether you see it as a religious, political, feminist or oher allegory, or simply as a fun bit of film viewing, there’s something for everybody.
For, despite its being an incredible 80 years old this year, The Wizard of Oz still holds the ability to captivate audiences of all ages. We can vouch for this, with a sometimes fussy seven-year-old in our orbit loving every minute of it upon a recent viewing.
Four reasons why The Wizard of Oz rocks:
1. The transition from sepia to colour as we enter Oz.
2. The insanely memorable songs (even with the odd dodgy rhyme or two).
3. “I’m mel-ting!!!”
4. Reference spotting: “Hey, that’s that bit from The Simpsons, and South Park, and Wreck-It Ralph, and…”
