It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, our work experience student Elise Faul has selected a personal favourite: Wayne’s World.
Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers), a rock ‘n’ roll fanatic, and his strange yet loveable best buddy Garth Elgar (Dana Carvey) operate the eponymous public access TV show from Wayne’s parents’ basement. Party on! But due to its popularity with a large teen audience, a corporate cable TV company hijacks the show, and the pair fights to maintain control over their broadcast.
If you can’t remember the ’90s or you weren’t even born then, this comedy classic is both excellent and more radical than Delaware. It’s a journey filled with love, friendship, rock music and satirical comedy that will make you laugh so hard you’ll hurl.
Four reasons why Wayne’s World rocks:
1. The iconic Bohemian Rhapsody car scene – head-banging is mandatory.
2. The stupendous soundtrack that includes Jimi Hendrix, Queen and Alice Cooper, who actually makes an appearance – “We’re not worthy!”
3. Neither Wayne nor Garth will bow to any sponsor. They don’t just do things because they’re getting paid, because that’s just really sad.
