It’s STACK‘s Friday Flick time, where each week we’ll recommend a slice of classic movie viewing that’s sure to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, it’s What We Do in the Shadows.
The “mockumentary” format is a hard thing to nail, and there have been many failures. Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, two of the people behind TV’s Flight of the Conchords, were too canny to stuff it up though, and so we enter the lives of three suburban werewolves in Wellington, New Zealand. The very weird lives of three suburban werewolves in Wellington, New Zealand.
With all the requisite fourth wall breaks, “unscripted” stuff-ups and the like, What We Do in the Shadows not only looks incredible, but it’s incredibly funny – and, like the best flicks, eminently quotable. So, what are you doing tonight? Are you going to kill some perverts, or watch one of the finest comedies to have ever emanated from New Zealand?
Now, leave us to do our dark bidding on the internet!
Four reasons why What We Do in the Shadows rocks:
1. The best mockumentary this side of This Is Spinal Tap.
2. Having merciless fun with the incredible amount of vampire lore that has evolved over the years.
3. Our introduction to Wellington’s finest, officers O’Leary and Minogue.
4. “We’re werewolves, not swear-wolves.”
