The first trailer for director Luca Guadagnino’s remake of Dario Argento’s 1977 horror classic has dropped, and sceptical fans should be very pleased with the first footage.

One of the more contentious remakes of a horror film for some time given its cult following, reimagining Suspiria has been a passion project for the Italian filmmaker who is best known for the critically acclaimed and Oscar-winning drama Call Me by Your Name.

Characterised by its lavish production design, stylised violence and sinister score by prog-rockers Goblin, Argento’s original film told the terrifying story of an American student who discovers that her German ballet school is a actually a front for a witches coven.

Original star Jessica Harper appears in the remake alongside Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton and Chloë Grace Moretz, with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke handling the score – which sounds suitably Goblin-esque in the trailer.

Footage unveiled at Cinemacon recently shocked attendees, so everything seems to be boding well for the new Suspiria, which is due in cinemas November 8, 2018.
