Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed and director Ruben Fleischer gave the Comic-Con crowd more on Venom, and who he’ll be clashing with in the Sony film.
New footage screened at the Hall H panel featured Riz Ahmed’s character, Dr. Carlton Drake, who is also possessed by a symbiote – Riot.
“He’s a genius billionaire inventor,” Ahmed explained. “Life Foundation is trying to answer the question of what does the future for humanity look like? He thinks we’ve probably got a future in outer space, and he comes across the symbiote.”
Another clip revealed just how venomous Venom is, biting off someone’s head – a moment that wasn’t lost on Tom Hardy.
“Venom is by far, for me, the coolest Marvel superhero there is. I just like the way he looks first and foremost,” he told the audience.
“Then, also, there’s my son and he’s a massive Venom fan. He was a strong influence on me as to why I ought to play Venom. So I did something where I bite people’s heads off which my son can’t see.”
Director Ruben Fleischer described the world of Venom presented in the film as “huge” and character-packed, which begs the question: Will Spider-Man pay it a visit in the future?
“I think we can all agree it would be pretty amazing to see Spider-Man and Venom face off in a film,” he said. “I have to think the studio is thinking the same way and at some point down the track they’re gonna run across each other’s paths.”
That would definitely be more amazing than Tobey Maguire and Topher Grace’s face-off in Spider-Man 3.
Venom is in cinemas on October 4.
