Boy & Bear‘s beautifully life-affirming album Suck On Light lands in stores today! Bandmembers Tim Hart and Dave Symes flicked through the vinyl racks at JB Hi-Fi and talked us through some of their favourite records.
Here are some of the gems they picked up…
“I love this album… I didn’t get Tame Impala before they did this… and then I got this record and I loved it, it has great pop songs, amazing sounds and great arrangements and I appricated the earler ones via this record”
“This was the first vinyl my parents had, it came out on 1980. I remember learning how to put a vinyl on the old thorn record player. It’s a killer record, 1980, right on the edge… Very political – I didn’t understand it at time – I just remember dancing in my pyjamas.”
“Tim – my brother who plays drums in the band as well – this was the record for us as kids. I probably heard it when I was four or five… I still have the copy my parents had, I got to keep it as I moved away first. If I had to just keep one reord, it would be this one – no question for me.”
“This one takes me back to being an eight-year-old or ten-year-old. My parents didn’t have many records at all – I recon they had maybe ten albums. Now I recon this is a big influence for me musically, that sound; the British rock and roll and [Stevie Wonder’s Hotter Than July] the early R&B soul.”
