It’s that time of year again, when the biggest pop culture event on the planet takes over the San Diego Convention Centre for four days of panels, presentations, new trailers, announcements, installations, cosplayers, exclusive merchandise and lengthy queues.
Marvel, Game of Thrones, Westworld and Star Wars are taking a break this year, making room in the schedule for even more upcoming films and TV series.
SDCC 2018 kicks off on Thursday, July 18 until Sunday, July 22, and with the full schedule finally revealed and our bags packed, here are some of the highlights we’ll be bringing you later this week, direct from Comic-Con central…
Further details on the latest in the franchise featuring our favourite dreadlocked alien will be revealed in a Hall H panel on Thursday, July 19, with director Shane Black (Iron Man 3) and stars Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Hayden, Yvonne Strahovski and Thomas Jane in attendance.
The annual Hall H panel on Thursday, July 19, will introduce 13th Doctor Jodie Whittaker, along with co-stars Tosin Cole and Madip Gill. Also on hand will be showrunner Chris Chibnall and executive producer Matt Strevens to provide some insight into what we can expect from a groundbreaking new era in Doctor Who history. The first trailer featuring Whittaker’s Doctor is also likely to be unveiled!
THE WALKING DEAD
Big changes have been promised in the ninth season of the undying series, which airs this October. Hopefully we’ll discover what some of them are at the Hall H panel on Friday, July 20. Stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira and Negan himself, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, could provide some clues along with new showrunner Angela King, and makeup master and executive producer Greg Nicotero.
Sony will be showcasing its ambitious new animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in a Hall H presentation on Friday, July 20. We’re as curious as you are to find out more about this new entry – will we see Uncle Ben die again? And where does it fit into the established Spider-Verse? We’ll also get a further look at Spidey’s nemesis in the form of Tom Hardy, with the latest on Venom also part of the presentation.
The WB presentation is always at the top of our list, and this year’s Hall H spectacular on Saturday, July 21, will be huge. New DC movies Aquaman, Wonder Woman 1984 and Shazam! are expected to lead a line-up that’s also likely to include The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Will Eddie Redmayne be handing out wands to the crowd once again? Expelliarmus! Expect lots of new trailers, too.
It’s happening again – the scariest press event on the SDCC calendar returns to haunt San Diego. This year’s presentation of New Line’s upcoming horror movie slate will include the latest on IT: Chapter 2, The Nun, and another new film set in the Conjuring Universe.
