Riding a seven-year wave of surprise celebrity, Jerry Ferrara played the pot-smoking chubby sidekick, Turtle, to Adrian Grenier’s charismatic actor Vincent Chase in the hit Hollywood buddy series Entourage.
Clasping the coattails of success between 2004 and 2011, he eventually dropped 60lbs, quit smoking and cleaned up his diet before opening Fat Sal’s Deli in Hollywood – a nod to Turtle’s name, Salvatore Assante.
The post-Entourage years have not been kind to the Brooklyn-born actor, cast in minor movie roles in Battleship (2012), Think Like A Man (2012) and Lone Survivor (2013). One post-Entourage highlight came with 2013 senior comedy Last Vegas, sharing billing with Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman, albeit in another small role. Reuniting with his Entourage buddies for a 2015 feature film version of the show offered a brief lifeline – a role in Clint Eastwood’s Sully the following year.
A recurring part in well-regarded TV crime drama Power put his name back in the headlines, although the show was cancelled last year after its sixth and final series. With a cameo in upcoming comedy Dating in New York – currently shelved till next year – at least Ferrara, 40, won’t starve, dining in his currently-shuttered deli.
Having previously dated Sopranos’ actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, he found joy within his 2017 marriage to Breanne Racano and the arrival of a baby boy, Jacob, last year.
