Time to prepare yourselves Marvelites – the first Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer is set to drop TOMORROW!
Jimmy Kimmel Live! once again has the pleasure of premiering a massive Marvel trailer and this one is a beauty – so while we wait in fevered anticipation, here’s what we are hoping to see…
Comic nods galore
A major issue true believers had with the last two incarnations of Spider-Man was that justice just wasn’t done to the comic book character. While a taste of Tom Holland’s youthful exuberance and true Spidey nature was glimpsed in Captain America: Civil War, we still don’t really know him.
This has already been touched on in the teaser, with his webbed-wings referencing co-creator/original artist Steve Ditko’s ’60s costume. But with Tony Stark showering Peter Parker with shiny new things, it would come as no surprise to see other comic gizmos appear – Spider-Mobile anyone?
With a younger Spider-Man comes more time spent at high school – hooray! We’re hoping to see a lot more school-based scenes as Peter Parker juggles trying to save the world and get that darn essay completed in time. Although the most exciting aspect about the high school setting is that Kevin Feige (Marvel Studios President) has declared Homecoming to “be a ‘John Hughes’ movie.” Maybe we’ll see Holland and Zendaya kissing atop a cafeteria table, Sixteen Candles style.
First look at one secretive character
Marvel knows exactly what we want and they make us beg for it like a dog for a bone. And there are three characters we’re dying to see in the new trailer – Michael Keaton’s Vulture, Zendaya’s mysterious Michelle and Donald Glover’s unknown role.
It’s unlikely that all three will be shown in the trailer, to keep us eager for more. But a glimpse of one of them will be a perfect early Christmas present. Expect one of the reveals to be after the title – we all know how Marvel loves to do that!
Uncle Ben mention
Spider-Man’s origin story has been done to death (sorry) by this point, and luckily for us, it won’t be shown again. However, it will be extremely interesting to see how they deal with the *spoiler* death of Uncle Ben. Will it skip the entire ordeal or will there be a sad little montage? We’re hoping the answer will be revealed in the new footage.
It feels like we’ve been waiting for eternity for Spider-Man to fall into the lap of Marvel Studios. We have no doubts that they won’t be taking that for granted! Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark and Jon Favreau’s Happy have already been cast in the film (and teased in the clip below), but Marvel might have a sneaky surprise under their belt.
