We’ve put together a list of the best dogs in video games.

Dog – Duck Hunt

He’s like the video game version of Muttley. He laughs at you if you’re bad, and has often been noted by critics as one of the most annoying video game characters of all time. At least he was in Pixels

Rush – Megaman

Rush takes being (Mega)man’s best friend to a whole new level, even transforming into a ship or a whole new suit if he needs it.

Dogmeat – Fallout

Ah, the indestructible. Dogmeat is a great companion – especially in the latest Fallout adventure – as he can’t die. There was also that super cool glitch that let you break into the case at the very beginning of the game…

D-Dog – Metal Gear

He’s got an eye patch on the same eye as Snake – cool, right? Diamond Dog is one of the most badass doggos out there – he’s gotta be to keep up with Snake.

Nintendog – Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The Nintendog games were our first taste of responsibility as kids (aside from Tamagotchis), and they stuck around to haunt us in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Golden Retriever breed shown was chosen, according to game director Masahiro Sakurai, as it it the world’s most popular.

Dog – Fable II

We won’t talk too much here for fear of spoiling Fable II, but your canine companion in this game is as loyal as they come.

Barbas – The Elder Scrolls

He makes various appearances throughout the Elder Scrolls series, and Barbas is associated with Clavicus Vile – the Daedric Prince of Trickery. Sure, he can be annoying, but who can say no to a stray dog?

Boomer – Far Cry 5

Now, we are yet to see too much of Boomer – as the game hasn’t even released yet – but from trailers and the short gameplay we went hands-on with at E3, Boomer is going to be a useful companion.
