Amy Hennig is one of the most influential women in the video game industry.
Beginning her career as an artist, she worked in the 1980s on an unreleased Atari 7800 title, then joining Electronic Arts as an animator and artist. In the late ’90s, Hennig moved to Crystal Dynamics, assisting with the development of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.
Hennig’s most influential presence so far, however, was as creative director at Naughty Dog. Beginning with a role in the Jak and Daxter games, Hennig then became game director on Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, and would go on to act as head writer and creative director for the series.
Hennig began work on Drake’s most recent adventure, A Thief’s End, then departing Naughty Dog in 2014. She has now joined Visceral Games and is in production on a new Star Wars title.
This new Star Wars title will reportedly be in the ‘vein’ of the Uncharted series, though exactly what that means remains to be seen – will we be playing as a Bounty Hunter? Will it be third person? Only time will tell, but with any luck we might even get a look at it at E3.
Thanks to Hennig’s contribution to the industry, more and more women are finding the inspiration to pursue the career they love.
