When we asked Luke Morris, games coordinator at JB Geelong in Victoria, how long he’s been a gamer, his answer was instant.
“Oh, forever, I guess! I’m 35, almost 36, so I’ve been gaming forever.”
Luke got his first gaming fix on the SEGA Master System II console as a kid, and has been hooked ever since.
As to his time at JB, Luke got his start as a Christmas casual, and has now been with the Geelong stores for close to 10 years. In that time his roles have varied.
“I was the games coordinator, then I was the CD coordinator, and I went back to games coordinator. I’d say in this iteration for about four years.”
It always comes back to games!
Luke’s latest console of choice? The Xbox One X.
“I just want the best console on the market and for me at this stage it’s the Xbox One X”
“Because of the 4K, but I’m happy to jump ship, I just want the best console on the market and for me at this stage it’s the Xbox One X.”
As for what’s most popular in his store, however, the PS4 rules.
“It’s mainly PlayStation that’s our biggest seller at this store – the section as a whole. We also do a heap of gaming headsets – and a lot of GTAV, which is still a really strong seller here”
He must have quite the collection happening, for when asked about his favourite piece of games memorabilia, Luke was quick to respond.
“I’ve still got all my old classic consoles – I’ve still got my Super Nintendo in its original box.”
Having been gaming “forever”, Luke has seen and played many a franchise over the years, but he doesn’t hesitate in naming a fighting favourite.
“I’d say the Onimusha franchise, the PlayStation 2 games”.
This ties in neatly with what’s hot on his playing-now list, Mortal Kombat 11. Luke has been a long-time fan of the series, and classic fighting games generally.
“I’ve grown up on arcade machines – Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat. It’s more nostalgia for me.”
Still, the game that Luke’s most looking forward to is Cyberpunk 2077 – and he’s not alone. It’s been the most asked about title in-store.
“I’ve had a lot of questions about Cyberpunk after E3. Everyone loves Keanu this year.”
