We’re profiling some of Australia’s biggest content creators to see what really makes them tick. MissZee is a variety gamer and content creator with a huge passion for gaming, geek culture and mental health. Zee was a finalist for Australian Mixer Creator of the Year in 2018. She has been gaming for as long as she can remember, from Atari Lynx, Sega, Nintendo, N64 and PS1 to modern consoles. You can catch her, most days, being a hero in an epic JRPG, raging over FPS, obsessing over a new TCG or crying in fear with a horror.

When did you first start out making online content?
I started streaming on Mixer back in February 2018. We celebrate my ‘Mixerversary’ on St Valentine’s Day. Seems appropriate for my love of video games and content creating, right?

What got you into content creating in the first place?
I’ve been gaming for as long as I can remember. Once the internet was born and multiplayer came to life, I fell in love with the social aspect of gaming. The idea of streaming was appealing for that very reason. Imagine doing something you love and in the process meeting thousands of like-minded people to share that with. Crazy, right? 10,000+ followers later… Amazing!

What do you usually stream?
I play a huge variety of games. RPG, FPS, horror, RTS, TCG and more. I do try to throw in the occasional Web Show and IRL stream, too. Right now, I’m on my second playthrough of Nier: Automata and I am catching up on FFXIV in preparation for Shadowbringers in June.

What do you think is the best part about being a content creator?
Community, 100 per cent! My community, to be specific. It’s crazy to think that I created this. It’s been amazing for my self esteem and confidence. These are people who share my love and passions, and they’re in it for me. It’s incredibly heart warming.

How many hours a day do you devote to producing videos/streaming content?
At least 4-5 hours. I am a mother to two, so they always take priority, but they also sleep! There’s a lot more to streaming than turning a camera on and clicking ‘live’, so if I’m not actually streaming, I’m doing behind-the-scenes things and supporting other creators.

What does your setup look like (PC specs/console, streaming/recording equipment, peripherals)?
I am primarily a PC gamer. Ideally, I’d love to run a two PC set up. That’s something I am currently saving for. I have a mixture of Logitech, Corsair, BenQ PC accessories, Rode NT-USB microphone, AKRacing gaming chair, Elgato green screen, stream deck and game capture card for when I play console (PS4, PS3 and Switch).

What advice would you give to anyone who would wants to take up a career as a streamer or a content creator?
Patience. It doesn’t happen overnight. We all start at zero! Don’t conform to what’s popular. It really shows when a creator is not enjoying themselves, so do what you love and let those who love it too, find you. Variety is much more slow growing than what’s hot: extra patience. Get involved in the community! These are like-minded individuals with the same passion as you. They will quickly become some of your best friends and people you will call family.
