There have been several Ghostbusters games over the years, dating right back to the 1980s. Some were good, some bad – where will Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed land?

It’s just been announced by Illfonic, the people behind Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds.

No specific date has been unleashed as yet for the multiplayer FPS experience, but we do have an introductory trailer, which you can watch below.

The pitch initially goes like this: “As a Ghostbuster, join with other Ghostbusters to chase and trap ghosts in museums, prisons, hotels, and more, and capture the ghosts before they can fully haunt the areas.”

Nothing unusual there. But then things liven up: “Or, as the Ghost, hide, sneak, surprise, scare, and of course, slime Ghostbusters and civilians until the everything has gone completely spooky. Use trickery, deception, and Ectoplasm to gain the upper hand and drive the Ghostbusters out.”

You can play as a ghost? Now that’s a cool-sounding twist – “I slimed him!”

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is planned for release on PS5, Xbox and PS4 towards the end of the year, with a promise of crossplay between formats.
