If you’re after a cool new portable gaming rig then ROG may just have the answer with either of their shiny new Strix Scar 17 SE and ROG Flow X16 laptops.
Yes, both the ROG Strix and ROG Flow line-ups each welcome new Windows 11 gaming laptops to their fold.
The ROG Strix Scar 17 SE promises the latest in high horsepower hardware, as well as cutting-edge cooling solutions. It houses a 12th generation Intel Core i9-12950HX processor, with a custom vapour chamber that’s paired with ROG’s “Conductonaut Extreme” liquid metal applied to both the CPU and GPU, which allows the hardware to be pushed further than ever.
Available with either FHD 360Hz or QHD 240Hz 17.3-inch screens, each boasting a speedy 3ms response time and Dolby Vision HDR support, the Scar 17 SE will ship with up to 64GB of speedy DDR5 4800 MHz RAM, and PCIe Gen 4 storage up to 4TB for hyper-fast loading times. Four speakers drive Dolby Atmos sound for added sonic power.
Aesthetically, the machine features a striking cyberpunk vibe, with “first-of-its-kind invisible ink applied directly to its metal chassis”. This means that in normal lighting it gives off a matte metallic texture appearance, but with a UV light the ink appears green and blue.
Meanwhile, the ROG Flow X16 is a 16-inch convertible laptop that’s thin and light – weighing in at just 2.1kg – yet still super-capable. It’s powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS processor, running in conjunction with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti laptop GPU.
Screen-wise, the Flow X16 features ROG’s flagship Nebula HDR Mini LED display, delivering QHD resolution and Dolby Vision with 165Hz, 1100 nits peak brightness and a 100 per-cent DCI-P3 gamut. There’s also a new heatsink inside to keep things running cool, in the shape of ROG’s “Frost Force Technology and Pulsar Heatsink”, which features three fans.
It can handle RAM up to 64GB, and SSD storage up to 2TB and, like its new sibling, features four-speaker Dolby Atmos sound.
