Rather than trundling through a variety of upcoming releases, Bandai Namco used their E3 2021 showcase to focus on the upcoming The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes.

We’ve had a ghost ship and a desolate town, now it’s time for something new in the series, which sees the return of the wonderfully Rocky Horror-styled host, simply known as The Curator.

This one’s set in the final stages of the Iraq conflict in 2003, where a raid on a suspected underground chemical weapons facility eventually leads to sinkholes opening up and thrusting our protagonists into the ruins of a buried Sumerian temple. “In the darkness beneath the Arabian Desert, something evil is awakened. Savage and unstoppable, a nest of ancient and unearthly creatures has a new prey to hunt.”

Following the new preview of House of Ashes (above) was an exclusive interview with Dan McDonald, executive producer at developer Supermassive, in which he talks about everything from what makes a horror game tick to how to perfect a jump scare and what it’s like to work with actress Ashley Tisdale. Check it out just down the page a tad.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes is set to release on PS5, Xbox and PS4 on October 22. Pre-order now at JB Hi-Fi.
