The Melbourne Esports Open 2019 is under way at the Melbourne and Olympic Parks, which means that JB Hi-Fi’s Game On Zone is positively jumping with action.
Featuring a bunch of first-to-play games, some classic faves, a host of very cool hardware and many a special deal, it’s an unmissable stop on your MEO 2019 journey.
We got in early to get our hands on some exciting upcoming games, the kings of which are the looter shooter mayhem of Borderlands 3 – dropping September 13 – and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which doesn’t hit until October 4. They each have their own special boxed rooms, and by the time we went out to explore more of the MEO, the lines were really building – and buzzing.
They’re not the only first-to-play games at the JB Hi-Fi Game On Zone though, no sirree Bob! Gears 5 is landing on September 10, but it has its own box setup in which you can start taking out the Swarm right now. You can also catch up with some of the best in Xbox indie games while you wait.
Tucked snugly away at the back of the JB Hi-Fi Game On Zone is another huge deal – especially if you prefer shooting down straights rather than shooting beings. The October-bound Codemasters racer GRID is ready to play, complete with two wheel, pedal and seat rigs that are super-cool. We had a quick blat around the track and we want one really badly – not that we have space! We’ll definitely be making space for the game though.
Also available for play via booking is Marvel’s undated-as-yet Iron Man VR for PS VR. Pop by the PlayStation stand to check that out, and while there also catch up with the still-to-release MediEvil remake (coming October 25) and FIFA 20 from EA Sports (releasing September 27), the very exciting game creator Dreams and some old faves such as Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled and the WipeOut Omega Collection.
While you’re in the JB Hi-Fi Game On Zone you really can’t go past Nintendo’s stand, with heaps of stations set up for getting into Super Mario Maker 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Switch.
If you prefer your gaming a bit more old school, make sure to pop by the Five Star booth, where you can get a look at the September 19-bound SEGA Mega Drive Mini, which is packed with 42 classic 16-bit games. Also on show there is the upcoming new adventure of the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair.
These are just some of the exciting games ready for you to play at the JB Hi-Fi Game On Zone right now. Also look out for the Fortnite ‘Freeplay Field’ as you enter, and the wild-looking iB Cricket – which brings the sport smashing into VR.
It isn’t just about the games, either. If you’re into all the most up-to-date hardware, you really should stop by and check out all the latest from the likes of Alienware, Astro, Asus, Corsair, Dell, HyperX, Logitech, Omen by HP, Razer, RIG, SteelSeries and Turtle Beach.
With all this and a few more surprises, you really won’t want to miss the massive JB Hi-Fi Game On Zone at this year’s Melbourne Esports Open – and it’s happening right now!
