In Fast Forward each month we take a look at a handful of up-and-coming games that have us excited, and hopefully have you excited too!

Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6
Most games have a big bad, but we may have the biggest and baddest yet in evil Castro-inspired dictator Antón Castillo. If the face looks familiar, that’s because when he’s not evilly dictating, he’s Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito. Players will be tasked with leading a guerrilla revolution that aims to free the tropical island nation of Yara from the clutches of Castillo, in the largest Far Cry playground to date.
PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PC – Shooter – Multiplayer? Yes – Release date: 7/10/21

Metroid Dread

Metroid Dread
The first new classically-styled 2D Metroid game in some 19 years is almost with us, and it’s set to conclude the five-part saga of Samus and the Metroids. This time out, Samus heads to a remote planet where she’s hunted by a new mechanical threat in the form of E.M.M.I. robots. We’ll be able to return to previously explored areas once powered up to discover more of this mysterious world, and hopefully emerge victorious.

Back 4 Blood

Back 4 Blood
Back 4 Blood is the latest zombie/undead/diseased/monster/call-’em-what-you-want FPS blaster, and it has a super-cool and eclectic cast. They’re the Cleaners, “a rag-tag group ready to eradicate the Ridden… or die trying”. If it all looks and sounds a bit familiar that’s good, as this one has pedigree – it’s the latest outing from many of the creators of the classic Left 4 Dead series. Call it a “spiritual successor” if you will.
PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 – Shooter – Multiplayer? Yes – Release date: 12/10/21

Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042
This year’s big one for war shooter lovers promises a whole tonne of frantic past-meets-near-future combat, and a return to the franchise’s classic, all-out warfare. A whole new mode, Battlefield Portal, will be community-driven, and will present collisions of different eras via content from Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3, plus seven maps from the new release’s main campaign.
PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, PC – Shooter – Multiplayer? Yes – Release date: 22/10/21

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
Marvel’s Guardians return in a new game from Eidos Montreal. Play as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, in a completely original, self-contained story – there’ll be no DLC or expansions, so the comic book-influenced tale will come complete at launch. It’s a classically-styled third-person shooter, but adding to the action is an ongoing narrative that your decisions will affect – plus, Peter’s Walkman is an ‘80s banger weapon!
PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 – Action adventure – Multiplayer? No – Release date: 26/10/21

Mario Party Superstars

Mario Party Superstars
If you’re into partying with Mario then it’s time to celebrate, as this latest entry in the Mario Party series serves as a kind of greatest hits, plundering past releases for an updated collection of games. This includes five classic boards from the Nintendo 64 era, plus 100 button-controlled minigames from N64 and GameCube. More fabulous news is that there’ll be local and online multiplayer, as well as the ability to save progress.
