As battle royale smash Fortnite continues to take over the world, PlayStation players were feeling left out, due to Sony’s decision to not play nice with other formats.
This is set to change, however, according to an entry on the PlayStation Blog.
“Following a comprehensive evaluation process, SIE has identified a path toward supporting cross-platform features for select third party content. We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community’s continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution.”
The first example of this new glasnost-esque approach to online play will be an open beta for Fortnite that starts today. It will allow for cross platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PS4, Xbox One, Switch, Android, iOS, Windows and Mac.
Naturally they’re getting all competitive about it – “We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation” – but hey, if it gets the result then all we can say is “Yay!”
The beta arrives on PS4 just in time for the start of Fortnite‘s Season 6, too. Have fun storming the castle!
