Sucker Punch have let loose a look at the new Iki island story expansion that forms a big part of the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut.

It promises a bunch more – including new locations to discover, characters to meet (including mad monks!), tales to complete, and animals to pet such as cats, deer and monkeys – check them out:

Here’s how Sucker Punch are setting up the story: “Jin’s journey begins when he discovers that a mysterious Mongol tribe has gained a foothold on Iki. They are led by a revered shaman called Ankhsar Khatun, known to her followers as “the Eagle.” As both a khatun and a shaman, she is not only a conqueror of nations, but a shepherd of souls. And the danger she presents to Jin and his people is unlike any they have faced. The only way to counter this threat is for Jin to return to Iki Island. He’s been there once before. And in confronting a new and dangerous enemy, he will be forced to face old fears, and unearth deeply buried traumas. As you explore a new island and battle new threats, you’ll also delve into the dark past of clan Sakai…”

The expansion will be available for PS4 and PS5 players, and as well as the new content it will deliver a raft of tweaks and updates to improve the already superb experience. All content since release will also be packed in.

As for PS5 exclusive features, there’ll be Japanese lip sync, made possible thanks to the PS5’s ability to render cinematics in real time. Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers also come into play for all parts of the game, as well as enhancements to 3D audio and “drastically” improved load times (impressive when it was no slouch on the PS4), plus 4K resolution options and framerates targeting 60 FPS.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut launches August 20 on both PS5 and PS4, with upgrade paths available for those who already own the game – and the ability to carry forth any progress made on PS4 to PS5. Pre-order now at JB Hi-Fi. Here‘s our review of the original release.
