Sonic the Hedgehog is no stranger to LEGO, having featured in an add-on pack for the ill-fated (but brilliant) LEGO Dimensions. Now he’s getting his own set.

It’s the latest creation from the LEGO Ideas programme to get the green hil- erm, light, and it’s looking pretty darned cool. Although once LEGO’s designers get to it who knows? We’re looking at you, Flintstones…

The set as voted for contains a Sonic minifigure, along with brick-built figures of Motobug, Heavy Gunner, Heavy Magician and, of course, the big bad formerly known as Dr Robotnik, Dr Eggman. We’ll get to play with these in a classic slice of the iconic Green Hill Zone, including, of course, a loop.

It’s the creation of a 24-year-old UK-based LEGO fan named Viv Grannell, aka ‘toastergrl’.

Said Grannell upon finding out that her set idea would become a reality: “I’ve been invested in the world of Sonic for almost my entire life, and it’s such a perfect fit for the LEGO system that I spent about a year rallying support for it to happen. Having 10,000 people back my design was overwhelming enough, even with friends and family behind me, but having it be selected for further development was the most exciting secret I have ever had to keep!”

What a great start to Sonic’s 30th year – here’s hoping we can bung it on our shelves soon.
