We now have vision of and more details on Death Stranding: Director’s Cut on PlayStation 5, and it does look pretty cool.
Billed as “the definitive experience”, it’s been fully remastered and also expanded with “a ton of new content” for PS5. This includes more weapons, equipment and vehicles, a variety of new modes, missions and areas to explore, expanded storylines, and enhancements to the UI. There will also be new online features, including friend play and leaderboards. Those words don’t ably sum up how much new stuff has been added, but the video a bit further down this page does.
Good news for those already into the game is that PS4 saves will be transferable to PS5. The new-gen console will also deliver enhanced environmental effects via haptic feedback, bespoke adaptive trigger resistance, 3D Audio and near-instant load times. Visually, there’ll be options for ‘Performance Mode’ with upscaled 4K and up to 60FPS, or ‘Fidelity Mode’ in native 4K – both with ultra-wide and HDR support.
There’s no free upgrade path for PS4 owners – boo! – however it will only be US$10 (we await confirmation of Aussie pricing) for what amounts to a big bunch of extra content.
We also have a release date – Death Stranding: Director’s Cut will be with us on September 24. Here’s our original PS4 review.
