Hoyts are set to build new esports arenas inside a few already existing cinema locations in order to provide an all-encompassing professional gaming environment.

The cinema chain will create new arenas as part of a partnership with Gfinity Esports Australia, the first of which will open in Moore Park, Sydney.

The inaugural Gfinity Elite series kicks off this April, with seven weeks of competition in three different games – Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rocket League and Street Fighter V – to be held in front of a live audience. Sydney’s Moore Park arena will be host to full broadcast and production capabilities, as well as state-of-the-art gaming equipment.

This new partnership highlight’s Australia’s dedication to ushering a new digital era of competitive gaming, and is only supported by the return of IEM in May.
