Two of our most favourite things are set to collide, with the tease of a wild new Super Mario LEGO set.

It isn’t going to be your typical LEGO release, however, introducing unique bricks and play elements – including sound and vision – for a “new physical play experience”.

This involves a special Mario figure that collects coins in real-life levels constructed from LEGO blocks.

“I have always liked LEGO products and how they help children use their imagination to play,” said Takashi Tezuka, executive officer and game producer at Nintendo. “The new product we created together with the LEGO Group seeks to combine two different styles of play – one where you freely build the world of Mario and the other where you play with Mario in the very world that you have created.”

The video below gives a much better idea as to what it will entail than words can.

LEGO Super Mario is set to release later in 2020.
