PlayStation have unveiled the controller for their upcoming PlayStation 5, the DualSense.
The wireless controller is billed as an evolution of the trusty PS4 DualShock that “will deliver a new feeling of immersion to players”, and it’s quite the funky-looking beast.
As we were promised in initial teases of the system, haptic feedback is a big thing with this controller, with it able to emulate real world experiences with various levels of rumble. As well as general controller feedback, the adaptive L2 and R2 trigger buttons of the DualSense will also be able to provide variations on tension feedback.
The ‘Share’ button has been replaced with a ‘Create’ button, promising to “pioneer new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves.”
A very cool feature of the DualSense is a built-in mic – no need for faffing around with a headset!
Otherwise, ergonomics experts have been brought in, tweaking angles here an there in a quest for that perfect grip and feel. Providing maximum battery life has also been something that the boffins have concentrated on.
So, with us yet to see the actual PS5 console, does the two-tone DualSense hint that we might be looking at something in white this time around? Hopefully we’ll find out soon – stay tuned!
