Melbourne will play host to Oceania’s biggest ever esports event later in the year.
The Melbourne Esports Open will be held at Rod Laver Arena and the surrounding parks September 1 and 2, and will play host to the League of Legends Oceanic Pro League finals on the Sunday. JB Hi-Fi are on board as presenting partner for the event.
It was also announced that the Overwatch Contenders Australia Season 2 finals will also be held at the event on the Saturday, giving esports fans even more reason to come along and enjoy the action.
Attendees also have the chance to try their hand at a few games of their own, with the open format of the tournament allowing for players to take on the very best amateur and pro players in the region.
Nick Vanzetti, Managing Director ESL Australia, said in a press release: “We are very excited to bring the biggest games in esports to Melbourne in September and we are thrilled that League of Legends has now locked in for five years. In addition, the Melbourne Esports Open will host a series of open tournaments in Margaret Court Arena that will pit the best emerging talent against the elite players from across the region!”
