Metal Gear Survive – set between the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – is now set for release early next year.
It’s a controversial entry in the long-running and much-revered series, as it’s the first to be developed without involvement from its creator, Hideo Kojima.
The game is also a bit of a departure for the series, bringing what is essentially zombie shooting to the party. The story involves a wormhole opening in the sky after the evacuation of Big Boss and Kazuhira Miller from the overrun Mother Base, absorbing the plant as well as the remaining Militaires Sans Frontières soldiers. They’re transported to an alternate reality along with the remains of Mother Base, only to be confronted by hostile creatures known as, erm, “creatures”. Obviously they need to do what it takes to find away back to their original reality.
Needless to say – and rightfully so – Kojima has previously let his thoughts on Metal Gear Survive be known, asking “The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage. Where do zombies fit in with that?”
If you pre-order the game you’ll receive a special “Survival Bonus Pack”, which includes the following exclusive bonus content:
- 4 gold-plated weapons: Bat, Sledgehammer, Survival Machete and Survival Spear
- 4 metallic survival scarves: Green, Blue, Pink and Silver
- 2 gestures: “Thumbs Up” and “Happy”
- Mother Base nameplate
- “BOXMAN [THE ORANGE]” accessory
- “Kabuki” face paint
Metal Gear Survive is set for release locally on February 22, 2018.
