Most everybody got very excited when Metroid Prime 4 was announced, and anticipation was high for a release this year. Now, that isn’t going to happen.

The latest outing for Samus has been delayed indefinitely, due to concerns about lack of quality in what had been developed so far. In fact, everything done so far has been trashed.

The game’s producer, Kensuke Tanabe, will now be collaborating with US-based Retro Studios – who created the original Metroid Prime for Nintendo’s GameCube – on developing the title.

In a respectable move, Shinya Takahashi, who is responsible for development at Nintendo, has released a video (below) to explain the decision.

Obviously there’s no release window now, but hopefully the wait will be worth it.
