Nintendo unfolded a surprise overnight, with the announcement of Paper Mario: The Origami King for Switch.
Not only can we look forward to a new entry in the series that began way back on the Nintendo 64, but it’s not far away – July 17.
We’re promised: “A comedy-filled journey packed with puzzles, strategic ring-based battles, quirky characters and unique visuals.”
The game invites us to an origami festival, but King Olly – who claims to be the ruler of the Origami Kingdom – has hatched a plot to fold the entire world. Eep! Luckily Mario’s on hand to take up the challenge, right? He’ll be equipped with new tools, including the ‘1000-Fold Arms’ ability which will allow players to interact with the landscape by stretching out and pulling, peeling and revealing new locations.
There’ll also be a new ring-based battle system, allowing players to solve puzzles to vanquish enemies – and, you guessed it, mini-games!
