NBA 2K21 on PS5 and Xbox X\S is set to deliver a whole lot more than speedier load times and spiffier graphics.

As well as the brilliant addition of The W – read more about that here – it’s time to hit the big city.

It started as The Park back in NBA 2K14 then grew to become The Neighbourhood – a place to play outside of the confines of NBA play. It’s now grown again, simply known as The City.

Over to the NBA 2K21 peeps: “Imagine a map that is many, many times larger than previous Neighbourhoods. A design that resembles a modern metropolis, complete with towering skyscrapers, sprawling plazas, and a city centre. Oh, and it houses four distinct boroughs that are controlled by four rival Affiliations.”

Yes, Affiliations are back. Each has their own dedicated borough and set of Affiliation courts within The City. Rep up to Pro 1 by winning a few games in Rookieville, and – much like enrolling at Hogwarts – you’ll be assigned to one of these four rival factions. At the core of Affiliations gameplay is rivalry and competition. Each Affiliation will be represented by a new addition, a Mayor. They’ll be very influential in your day-to-day experience within The City. Mayors will interact with their constituents via in-game polls and messaging that’s built into the menu system of The City.

With all this and a whole lot more, the upgrade to NBA 2K21 on next-gen looks like a must for basketball nuts.

NBA 2K21 arrives at launch for Xbox Series X|S on November 10, and PS5 on November 12. Pre-order now at JB Hi-Fi.
