Japanese developers FromSoftware are renowned for their Dark Souls games, and how truly challenging they can be. Now they’ve teamed with Activision for a new IP, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Set in late 1500s Sengoku Japan, You become the “one-armed wolf”, a disgraced warrior who has been saved from the brink of death and is now sworn to protect a young lord who’s the descendant of an ancient bloodline.  When the young lord is captured, nothing will stop you on a dangerous quest to regain your honour – apparently not even death itself. Now THAT is commitment!

We’re promised confrontations with larger than life foes in a “dark and twisted world”. Armed with an arsenal of deadly prosthetic tools and powerful ninja abilities, success will require a combination of stealth and head-to-head combat in all manner of of bloody confrontations.

While Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has been developed from the ground up and is completely separate to From’s established titles, there’s a reputation at stake here. As such, we’re promised that the action RPG will be just as challenging as its Dark Souls siblings. Some players will welcome that, while some will run screaming for the exits.

Reagradless, we’ll know more in 2019, when Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is slated for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
