They came from space in a meteor, and they sure ain’t friendly! They’re the Archaens, and we’ll be tasked with obliterating them in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction.

We love us a bit of kill-the-bad-aliens action, and action is certainly what’s on its way judging by our first look at gameplay. Check this out:

Want a bit of story? try this on for size:

“Three years ago, in the quaint town of Truth and Consequences, a meteor crashed down on a New Mexico community, releasing an unknown parasite. A handful of operators from Rainbow Six Siege seemingly contained the initial outbreak – until the Chimera parasite reappeared in multiple sites across the US, deadlier than ever. To take on this threat, the Rainbow Exogenous Analysis & Containment Team (REACT), a highly specialised and outfitted organisation was formed by Eliza ‘Ash’ Cohen, Dr. Elena ‘Mira’ Álvarez, and Jordan ‘Thermite’ Trace.”

Gameplay will see players join the REACT team, assembling a one to three-player squad of operators from a pool of 18 to take on the Archaen scourge in four different US locations. After completing each objective, players then must make a choice between extracting and collecting their rewards, or pushing deeper and confronting tougher enemies to earn greater rewards. Do you dare risk losing one of your operators in the name of loot, leaving you faced with a hazardous rescue mission?

A cool bonus is that players who already own Rainbow Six Siege will instantly unlock the entire roster of 18 operators from Extraction in Siege, plus players of both games will also receive elite United Front cosmetic bundles.

If it all doesn’t sound exciting enough, Ubisoft promise full cross-play cross-save and cross-progression between formats.

The game formerly known as Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction, launches on PS5, Xbox and PS4 on September 16. Pre-order now at JB Hi-Fi.
