It’s been some six years since slashtastic fighting game Soulcalibur V was let loose, and now we finally have word of a successor, Soulcalibur VI.
Timed to celebrate 20 years of the series (and obviously ignoring 1995’s Soul Edge), Soulcalibur VI is scheduled for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2018, and it sees a return to the fighting fest’s roots.
We’ll journey back to the 16th century and events of the first game, with Bandai Namco promising that we’ll “uncover hidden truths”.
Naturally, however, it will all look an incredible amount better than the stunning (for the time) debut in the arcades and then on SEGA’s Dreamcast system.
Soulcalibur VI will still see fights taking place in 3D, and maintains series staples such as eight-way movement, ring-out and versus modes. It will also introduce a new combo breaker system, to be known as the ‘Reversal Edge’.
Here’s the launch trailer, with a heartier helping of gameplay footage just below it.
