Western Digital have just held their latest What’s Next event, and announced two new additions to its WD_Black range of gaming storage devices.

The first of the new devices is the WD_Black SN850X NVMe SSD. This one promises the goods for hardcore gamers who want the speediest thing out there, with the internal PCIe Gen4 SSD delivering read speeds of up to 7,300 MB/s. Latency has also been minimised, while predictive loading and adaptive thermals management will add to the gaming experience. Windows users will also have access to the downloadable WD_Black Dashboard app, which promises to unlock a raft of PC performance-boosting features. There’s even an optional heatsink (available in 1TB and 2TB) that includes RGB lighting.

The other new reveal was the WD_Black P40 Game Drive SSD. WD claim that this one has been “created for gamers looking for portable storage with both performance and style”. The performance claim certainly holds true, with a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 interface and read speeds up to 2,000 MB/s. As for style, Windows users can take advantage of the drive’s customisable RGB lighting via the downloadable WD_Black Dashboard.
