We recently went hands on with a few hours of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and boy is it looking great.
While you can look forward to a more in-depth analysis of our three or so hours with the game in the September issue of STACK, you can rest assured that this final entry in the Tomb Raider trilogy is a doozy. We played through the first three-ish hours, and got to test out the new rapelling and traversal, as well as take on some baddies through stealthy (and not-so-stealthy) means.
The puzzles are just as tricky, and it’s worth noting that there’s a lot more verticality in Shadow of the Tomb Raider than in other games, so if you find yourself stuck in a particular area it might help to simply look up – or, in some cases, down. As far as combat is concerned, you’re still better off sticking to the shadows and picking enemies off one by one rather than simply going headfirst into gunfights – you’ll come out worse off more often than not.
You can still collect stuff in the environment to help you build and upgrade weapons and outfits – but, more importantly, there are also a few throwbacks in the outfit list too. One we saw was a Tomb Raider 2 Lara Croft skin (who still looks great, by the way) but we’re sure there would be more in the game somewhere.
