Guess what? it’s ba-ack! But with a bigger twist than that thing you do with your entire body when you’re trying to squeeze that long piece down the side of your Tetris well in time to avoid game over.

It’s called Puyo Puyo Tetris, and it’s just launched outside of Japan for Sony’s PS4 and Nintendo’s Switch.

We think it fair to say that most everybody on the planet knows what Tetris is, if not from playing it then from this fun nod from The Simpsons

But many will be wondering what in the world ‘Puyo Puyo’ is. It’s also a puzzle game, of Japanese origin. Versions have been released outside of its homeland in the past, renamed to Puyo Pop. More of a traditonal match three kind of affair featuring cutesy little slime creatures, it was actually spun off from a dungeon crawler called Madō Monogatari.

So, Puyo Puyo Tetris is what it sounds like, a collision of the two puzzling franchises, created by SEGA’s revered Sonic Team. It’s also fiendishly addictive – you have been warned!

This trailer gives some handy tips on what it’s all about…
